Dr. Dick is Professor of Developmental Science and Cognitive Neuroscience. He received baccalaureate degrees in Music and Psychology from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia. Following his Ph.D., he received additional training as a NIDCD NRSA Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Neurology at The University of Chicago. He researches brain development, with particular emphasis on language and executive function. Dr. Dick has been funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Communication Disorders (NIDCD), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct his research.<\/p>\n\n\n

Research interests<\/strong>: Diffusion-weighted imaging\/Neurobiology of speech and language networks in the developing brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dea Garic, Ph.D.\u00a0<\/strong>is a former graduate student in Developmental Science. She focused her research on neurobiological development of executive function using diffusion-weighted imaging. Specifically, the microstructural properties of frontal lobe regions and how they may predict children\u2019s development of attention and inhibition. She received her Bachelors degree from the University of Florida, and her Masters degree from Florida Atlantic University. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carolina Vias, Ph.D. <\/strong>is a former graduate student in Cognitive Neuroscience. She obtained her B.A. and doctoral degree from Florida International University. She focused her research on studying the cerebellum and language development following pre- or perinatal stroke using functional and structural MRI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexandra Lutz, M.S. <\/strong>is a former graduate student in Cognitive Neuroscience. Her research focused on the development of executive function and fiber pathways supporting that development in young children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristafor Farrant, M. S.<\/strong> is a former graduate student in Cognitive Neuroscience. His research focused on hippocampal development and it’s relation to episodic memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iris Broce, Ph.D.<\/strong> is a former graduate student in Developmental Science. She studied the development of speech and literacy in typical young children using functional and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She received her undergraduate degree from San Diego State University, San Diego, CA. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of California at San Francisco. She is currently faculty at University of California at San Diego.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
