{"id":15,"date":"2020-11-19T21:41:38","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T21:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/myweb.fiu.edu\/akhoddam\/?page_id=15"},"modified":"2026-05-25T15:01:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T15:01:20","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/myweb.fiu.edu\/akhoddam\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dr. Khoddamzadeh\u2019s Conservation and Sustainable (C&amp;S) Horticulture Lab focuses on integrating practical, science-based solutions with stakeholder needs to address challenges related to abiotic stressors, species endangerment, adaptation, and environmental pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This multidisciplinary research encompasses: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a)<\/strong>&nbsp;Seed technology, the role of mycorrhizal fungi in urban environments, and <em>in-vitro<\/em> micropropagation (tissue culture);<br><strong>b)<\/strong>&nbsp;Gene banking through cryopreservation and synthetic\/artificial seed production;<br><strong>c)<\/strong>&nbsp;The application of optical sensor technologies for monitoring <em>plant health<\/em>, with emphasis on assessing <em>fertilizer<\/em> use, <em>water<\/em> management, <em>microplastics<\/em>, and responses to <em>abiotic stressors<\/em> such as salinity, light, and heat in horticultural crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These research areas are critical for informing best management practices in botanic gardens, gene banks, the private sector, and the nursery production industry.
