The guide was especially helpful when it came to &#8220;Content Blocks,&#8221; as I was able to embed YouTube videos instead of just including hyperlinks. The guide also helped me with its &#8220;Post Categories and Tags&#8221; section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> I was able to create categories labeled &#8220;Reviews&#8221; and &#8220;Personal.&#8221; I put my writing sample in the Personal section. I have not yet included any tags but plan to do so soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also have not messed with any of the SEO settings yet because I wanted to focus on the site&#8217;s content but I was able to pick a theme in the Themes section. The Siteground guide also helped me make proper headers in my writing which I needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When creating the site, I was really trying to get hands-on and figure out how to do things myself, but the guide by Siteefy, &#8220;How to Edit&#8221; really helped whenever I felt lost. That guide was great when I had to figure out why my pages were not showing up in the Menu but I had already created them. Obviously, it&#8217;s &#8220;12. How to Edit Menus in WordPress&#8221; section helped me assign each page to the menu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also incorporated all of the feedback given to me on my writing from the past few weeks. Most of the criticism had to do with usability and the look, so I made everything single spaced and included more headings and images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What was most helpful was that I had already began creating content the last few weeks and reading about WordPress before starting. This means that sentences are chunked, there are plenty of pictures, hyperlinks to other pages and outside material, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I feel that the site is lacking when it comes to the overall look or feeling of the page, maybe even its organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I like the theme of the page but I may not be utilizing it to make sure the look reaches its full potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although each post is categorized, it still looks like a stream of long posts on the front page, almost like the user will have no choice when it comes to choosing what to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have struggled a little bit when it comes to getting the hang of WordPress, but mostly in controlling the layout of my own site. I think improving the site&#8217;s organization can really make the content shine even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The way I think of it is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine you have a very rare, expensive baseball card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the card is lying down in a dusty display case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If something is great, it looks much greater if presented in an organized and sleek fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jack&#8217;s Movie Reviews certainly could be organized and made to look better and I am almost positive this is the feedback or criticism I will get regarding my site as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Final Assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this editorial and compositional process, the main focuses when working on Jack&#8217;s Movie Reviews were to implement things that could provide SEO advantages and also to do an overhaul of the structure of the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, I went back and changed any walls of text to be &#8220;chunked.&#8221; This is something that I have been pretty diligent about, but ironically, my only page where I still needed chunking was this self assessment page in my first analysis. The negative effects of a text wall are mentioned in one of the first module units, 1-2 How do we Write Web Content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, I went through and added pictures to any post that did not have one before. This includes the updates posts and single podcast post. The importance of visual aids is also mentioned early and frequently in the course, namely in the Guardian article, &#8220;Top tips for a successful blog.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Image integration has become second-nature at this point and I wanted to make sure every post had visual aids to break up text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of the site&#8217;s content, the change I made that was probably most important was going back and adding links to my social media pages to every single post and page. This way I create a content &#8220;loop&#8221; between the site and social media pages, something I failed to do in a previous assignment. I also changed the hyperlinks to say &#8220;Instagram&#8221; and &#8220;Twitter,&#8221; instead of &#8220;Instagram: Here,&#8221; and &#8220;Twitter: Here,&#8221; per Professor Malesh&#8217;s suggestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of social media links will help keep people engaging with all of the content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When my site was reviewed by a classmate, their biggest criticism was my site&#8217;s layout and structure. This was a problem I knew I would have to tackle eventually and did so here in my revision process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have added a proper &#8220;Home&#8221; page that has my welcome video embedded for new users to see immediately. The front page used to contain all of my posts so I also made a &#8220;Read&#8221; page that contains all blog posts and update posts in order from newest to oldest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To further organize the site&#8217;s content, I also added new categories to put posts under. Categories was something I struggled with in the beginning so I had to refer back to the \u201cPost Categories and Tags\u201d section in Siteground\u2019s \u201cHow to Post Content\u201d guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, the site is much more organized now and easy for a user to navigate. The social media being present on every page will also improve the performance of posts online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Re-Review of Peer&#8217;s Site<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Project 2, I had the pleasure of reviewing Sophia Linares&#8217; site, &#8220;Align With Sophia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it did before, the site looks fantastic and completely balanced. The look of the page is mostly unchanged and although it was already very organized, the site is even more organized now. The &#8220;home&#8221; page is slightly different and no longer the &#8220;about&#8221; page. The home page even offers a nice message now that says, &#8220;I&#8217;m so glad you&#8217;re here,&#8221; with a smiley face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my initial review of the site, I expressed that I felt the site really just needed more content, whether that be writing or visuals. I felt the site definitely needed more visuals and better explanations of things that happen in the world of pilates. I myself know nothing about pilates and felt that I and many would benefit from visual components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Linares definitely added more content about pilates that I felt gave me a better understanding of her world and the goal of the site as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, on her social media announcement page, she embedded a window to her TikTok that allows users to watch her videos before exiting her site. I felt that was an interesting and effective way to show her new TikTok page. It also is in-line with one of my previous criticisms about wanting video to be embedded rather than a hyper link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although I still think there should be more photos, the additional content and organization certainly takes the site to the next level and I am starting to see more pictures in newer posts. There is also now an &#8220;Archive&#8221; section that easily allows readers to go back to read older content.
