Research / Grants

My research focuses on the economics of natural resources with a particular interest in understanding the interplay between ecological and economic systems. The central question that my research addresses is if resource users can manage natural resources in a manner that respects ecological integrity and institutional norms.  This inter-disciplinary research is a new sub-field in economics, called Ecological Economics, and differs from the traditional neoclassical economics, which would consider the natural environment as another raw material used in the production process.  I apply advanced ecological economic tools to three major areas: renewable resources including water and fisheries, ecosystem services valuation, and agro-ecological systems, and help policy makers and stakeholders choose sustainable resource management strategies.
