Emily Dare is an Associate Professor of Science Education at Florida International University. Previously, she taught at Michigan Technological University from 2015-2018. She received her B.S. in Physics from Brandeis University in 2008, her M.S. in Physics from Tufts University in 2011, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction – STEM Education from the University of Minnesota in 2015.

Her research interests are focused on K-12 science and STEM education. In particular, she is interested in supporting science teachers’ reform-based instruction while simultaneously understanding their beliefs. As science classrooms shift toward integrated STEM pedagogical and curriculum approaches, this is especially critical.  Dr. Dare also has a passion for working with K-12 students to understand how changes in classroom instruction impact their attitudes towards and beliefs about STEM fields. She is especially interested in how these changes impact girls in particular as increasing positive attitudes may help to increase the number of women pursuing careers in STEM-related fields where they are currently underrepresented.

Dr. Dare is a co-chair for the Conference Planning Committee for the 2022 SEHD Graduate Student Research Conference. She is also the chair of the CASE Elections committee.

Additionally, Dr. Dare is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Science Teacher Education, an Editorial Review Board member for Innovations in Science Teacher Education, and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Research in Science Teaching. She is also on the Publications Advisory Committee for NARST and is the co-chair for the ASTE Elections Committee.
