Hello and welcome back to “The Movie Diaries.” In today’s article, I will recommend three very different, random movies so you have options when you don’t know what to watch. There is nothing more unpleasant than sitting down in front of your TV, scrolling through your streaming service with nothing to watch, and I know this because it happens to me every single day! I chose movies I think are cool, so you can watch them when you feel indecisive. Let’s get started and happy watching!
Scott Pilgrim v.s the World (2010)

Directed by Edgar Wright
Starring: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kiernan Culkin, Brie Larson
“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” (2010) is an exotic movie. If you want to watch something absurd, fast-paced, and hilarious, this is the movie for you. This cult classic tells the story of Scott Pilgrim, played by Michael Cera, who falls in love with the mysterious, cool girl Ramona Flowers and then has to fight her 7 evil exes, one by one, to date her.
The movie, in a classic Edgar Wright manner, has a comic book style, and it’s edited to look like Scott is in a video game. The wackiness of it is what makes it a masterpiece to me; there is nothing else like it.
Mary plays Ramona, which I think has one of the best character designs ever, and it makes an awesome Halloween costume.
If you are not convinced yet, please go watch this scene. I have the confidence that it will make you watch it.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001- 2003)

Directed by Peter Jackson
Starring: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Viggo Mortensen
The Lord of the Rings saga is one of the most popular in history, so it could be seen as silly to recommend it to people, but it’s surprising how many haven’t seen it and underrate it because of their genre and length. I used to be one of those people, and it took me long to realize that I needed to give them a chance.
Not only are the movies beautifully shot, but the characterization and relationships are, too, which is why they are so memorable; you really get to know the characters and care for them.
The world-building will fascinate you. I appreciate how involved you can get in the fantasy world and how you feel like you are actually there. I would move to the Shire in a heartbeat, but my cat would miss me
Give them a chance! There’s a reason why they are so iconic, and please try watching the extended versions (it’s the correct and only way)
The Edge of Seventeen (2016)

Directed by Kelly Fremon Craig
Starring: Hailee Steinfeld, Woody Harrelson, Haley Lu Richardson
The Edge of Seventeen (2016) is a heartwarming coming-of-age movie filled with teen awkwardness. The character of Nadine, played by Hailee Steinfeld, struggles during her junior year of high school after her best friend starts dating her biggest nemesis, her brother.
My favorite part of the movie is how the main character is presented with flaws and makes many mistakes, which I think is typical of high school. Hailee Steinfeld’s performance is genuine and heartfelt, and her scenes with Woody Harrelson are top-tier.
If you are in the mood to think about your high school years mixed with great acting and cinematography, this is the movie for you!
