Visit “Static Pages, Moving Meanings”

I want to encourage all my readers to visit the website “Static Pages, Moving Meanings. ‘Essays on Rhetoric, Writing, and Internet Diaspora.’ ” by Cheyenne Newfield. I reviewed the blog’s website, and I can recommend it highly to anyone who wants to read very insightful content on rhetoric in the age of the internet. The content is not only very informational, but it’s also written in a witty way that feels welcoming and easy to understand. The website is still clean-cut, with a very sleek, non-overwhelming design and colors that are easy to read; it matches the topic of essays well. Even though the articles are long, they are divided into chunks of text and have bolded words, which I think makes them web and user-friendly.

One of my favorite parts is still the memes incorporated into the blog, which mix well with the page’s style and add a nice chuckle to the topics. The incorporation of the keywords is seamless; they are well integrated and do not feel forced, you can still see Newfield style come through.

All in all, the website is perfect. I genuinely have nothing to criticize; every time I revisit, I learn something new, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for it in the future!

New article: My last 3 watched films reviewed!

Hello everybody! I posted a new article reviewing the last 3 films I watched. I’ve been bad at watching movies lately, but this month I’ve been pretty successful. My last 3 films are “Project Hail Mary” (2026), “The Housemaid” (2025), and “The Princess Diaries” (2001), an exotic mix of films all very different from each other. I also experienced them in different ways, from the movie theatre to streaming to a very special screening in a garden! I reviewed them in a rapid-fire way. This is a good format for finding things to watch, so I plan to do more like it. Give it a read and let me know what you think!

Check out these new movie recommendations!

Hello everyone! I have a new page live on the blog with three very random movie recommendations for when you are stuck in front of the TV, looking over all the streaming services, and nothing interests you. This happens to me all the time and is very frustrating, sometimes I even end up not watching a movie at all, which is why I have to prevent this from happening to you!

The movies are very different from each other, so there is something for everyone, and I can assure you that they will fascinate you. We have a cult classic, a fantasy trilogy, and a coming-of-age movie, all of them films that I find very fun, and I think everyone should watch them. I have the confidence you will love them. Check out the article here!

“The Movie Diaries” Podcast EP.1 Available Now!

Hello everyone! The first episode of “The Movie Diaries’ podcast is out right now! You can find it right here. This first episode is all about the 2026 Oscar Awards. I watch them every single year; I consider them my Super Bowl. I wanted to cover the ceremony and talk about all the wins of the night and what I think of them. I always fill out a ballot trying to guess who will win what, and this year, I went over what surprised me and what I wished had won. If you are interested in award season, go give it a listen! In the meantime, happy watching (and listening!)

Gallery: “The Movie Diaries Top 10”

Welcome to the debut of the “The Movie Diaries” gallery, where you can get to know me and my tastes better. The gallery features my top 10 favorite movies of all time, I thought that it would be fun to showcase you what I enjoy outside my typical listicles and reviews.

There are so many movies I enjoy that didn’t make it but I still love so much, I tried to choose the films that represent me the most. I am a romance movie fan so most of the films in the list include it, my favorite of all time is “La La Land” (2016), I watch it at least once every single year and I cry my eyes out every time, the music is also fantastic and it frequents my playlists.

I also enjoy comedies a lot, I can quote “Clueless” (1995) and “Mean Girls” (2004) completely. Something that I appreciate in films that I tend to pay attention too when watching is the costumes, that is why “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006) is one of my favorites, besides the amazing acting and story of course.

I had to include some period pieces too, I love an old timey feel with gowns and epic love confessions, which “Little Women” (2019) and “Pride and Prejudice” (2005) both have, I can quote both of the confessions in the films by memory.

Something else I had to add is a coming of age, and that’s where “Lady Bird” (2016) comes in, I think the film and the genre itself are full of hope and feel comforting, which brings me back to another movies I had to add, “The Aristocats” (1970) and “Paddington 2” (2017), which are as cozy as you can get when it comes to a film.

Lastly, I added the “The Hunger Games” because it’s such an important part of my childhood and life, I still talk about it after reading the books years ago and I keep up with all their new releases!

Let’s Talk About Sitcoms: A Guide to the Genre

Friends (1994)

Hello everyone, and welcome back to “The Movie Diaries.” If you read the title of the article and then the title of the blog, you might be confused. Sitcoms are not movies! But I am also a huge fan of TV, so I wanted to shine a light on my favorite genre of show, which has become a dying art in recent years. So, let’s talk about sitcoms and happy watching!

What is a sitcom?

I Love Lucy (1951)

The term “sitcom” comes from “situational comedy.” It’s a TV show with the same recurring characters who navigate funny situations in the same place. The genre traces back to the early comedic theater but became what we know today in the 1950’s with classics like “I Love Lucy”. Sitcoms often run for many seasons, allowing audiences to form connections with the characters and watch them develop over the years.

These long runs in television shows give rise to iconic moments and characters. We see so many of them that it’s easy to forget actors play them! Take, for example, characters like Dwight from “The Office”, Sheldon from “The Big Bang Theory”, or even Homer from “The Simpsons” (yes, animation also counts!)

What is happening to sitcoms?

New Girl (2011)

Sitcoms ruled TV for years; every decade up until the late 2010s featured iconic sitcoms that everyone tuned in to see. The 90’s had “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and the 2000s had “Malcom in the Middle”. But in the new era of streaming, sitcoms took a back seat and became a comforting rewatch rather than the genre every TV station wanted to keep their ratings high with. Nowadays, people prefer TV shows with 8 1-hour episodes. This is the anti-sitcom; it works well with shows that want to tell a very specific plot, dramas or romances, but not with comedies.

There have been attempts at reviving the sitcom using the modern TV format, but in my opinion, it hasn’t come close to recreating the cultural impact that sitcoms of the past left. An example of this is the FX show “Adults”, which focuses on a group of roommates in their 20s. Season 1 is only 8 episodes long, each about 20 minutes long, which isn’t enough to appreciate all the characters and their quirks.

“One Day at a Time” on Netflix got close to what sitcoms used to be, and it had lots of potential. It was filmed with a live audience and used a multicam setup, which is not necessary to make a good sitcom, but it adds a nice hint of nostalgia. It was 13 episodes, each around 30 minutes long, which was a nice combination of the old sitcom format and how TV works now. The reason it didn’t work out was because it got cancelled; it needed a few more seasons to reach iconic sitcom status.

My top 3 sitcoms to watch

Modern Family (2009)

Here’s a very beginner’s guide for anyone reading who has never seen sitcoms or just watches clips on social media and wants the real experience. I’m going to list very mainstream shows, but they are popular for a reason, and everybody should watch them!.

Friends (1994)

-Where to watch: HBO Max

I think “Friends” might be the most iconic sitcom of all time. It is still talked about today, and you can buy Friends merch anywhere. It’s practically impossible that you haven’t heard of  “Central Perk” or of “We were on a break.” A lot of people undermine the impact of the show because it’s so popular, but if you give it a try, you’ll find out why everybody is still attached to Joey, Ross, Chandler, Phoebe, Monica, and Rachel! Here’s my favorite scene.

Modern Family (2009)

-Where to watch: Hulu

“Modern Family” is the perfect example of a TV show that makes you feel like you know the characters. Throughout its 11-season run, viewers from around the world were invited into the crazy family and saw the characters grow up. The show is not only funny, but it has many heartwarming moments. Personally, I love TV shows with big ensemble casts and lots of different storylines, and “Modern Family” is exactly that; there is a character for everyone. There are so many scenes to choose from, but here is one of my favorites!

New Girl

-Where to watch: Hulu

“New Girl” took the roommates trope of many sitcoms and took it to the next level, a level so hilarious it will have you crying for all of its seasons. The characters have such distinct, fully fleshed-out personalities that you end up knowing them well. The relationships and friendships in “New Girl” are well-written, and I consider them iconic. Jess and Nick are one of the best couples on TV!

Here’s one of the best comedy scenes in the show!

Top 4 films to watch on Valentine’s Day this year!

Still from People We Meet on Vacation (2026)

Hello everyone, and welcome back to “The Movie Diaries.” The month of love is approaching us, and there is no better way of celebrating than with a cozy movie night with some good ice cream or popcorn. It doesn’t matter if you are alone, with a partner, with family, or with your friends; a good movie is the solution to have the best time during Valentine’s. I collected a few of my favorite romantic films for every occasion, for when you are craving something new, or for something to cry laughing. Keep reading and happy watching!

  1. A new release: People We Meet on Vacation (2026)

People We Meet On Vacation | Official Trailer | Netflix

  • Director: Brett Haley
  • Stars: Tom Blyth, Emily Bader
  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • Tag: “On vacation, you’re free to follow your heart.”

“People We Meet on Vacation” tells the story of two best friends, Poppy, a free spirit, and Alex, a homey introvert, who meet every summer for a vacation. The polar opposite pair of stars wonder about their relationship after years of holidays. The film is an adaptation of a book of the same name, written by best-selling author Emily Henry. I’ve never read the book before, but as an outsider to the characters, I still enjoyed this movie. It was just released on Netflix and is an easy, comforting watch if you feel like you’ve seen all the classics. The movie has the same vibe as older 2000s rom-coms, which is hard to say about other modern romantic films. It’s silly and sweet, and I found the characters lovable. Something that stood out for me is the movie’s coloring (weird, I know). All films lately are so dark and bleak in color, and this one is very vibrant. The last thing I want to add about this film is a scene I loved that could become iconic in the future. If you don’t mind a small spoiler and want to see a bit of the film before jumping in, click here! The song playing in the background is forever stuck in my brain!

  1. An underrated masterpiece: About Time (2013)

About Time – Trailer

  • Director: Richard Curtis
  • Stars: Rachel McAdams, Domhnall Gleeson
  • Where to watch: Paramount +
  • Tag: What if every moment in life came with a second chance?

“About Time” tells the story of Tim, who, after another unsatisfactory New Year’s party, discovers that all the men in his family have the ability to travel through time; they can’t change history, but they can alter the events in their own lives. This takes Tim on a journey through time, where he must learn to appreciate life. This movie is absolutely beautiful, melancholic, and sweet all around. Not only is the romance aspect moving and pure, but it also explores family relationships, specifically father and son, in a touching way. This is the type of movie where you laugh, cry, or both, and it makes you feel like you really know the characters. I was rooting for them all throughout the movie. The chemistry between McAdams and Gleeson is off the charts, and they are one of the best pairings in romantic movies ever, in my opinion. I also enjoy the sci-fi aspect of time travel; it’s a welcome addition to the movie, but it doesn’t take over the plot. This is my favorite scene from the movie; it represents what this movie feels like to me, simple and cozy! I can’t believe how underrated the movie is. Please watch, and you won’t regret it!

  1. A hilarious watch: Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)

Crazy, Stupid, Love. – Trailer

  • Director: Glenn Ficarra, John Requa
  • Stars: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone
  • Where to watch: Rent on YouTube or Amazon Prime for $5.99
  • Tag: This is crazy. This is stupid. This is love.

“Crazy, Stupid, Love” is about a man named Cal Weaver who finds out his wife was unfaithful and is filing for divorce. He then meets Jacob Palmer, a self-appointed ladies’ man who takes him under his wing and teaches him how to flirt again. The movie also covers other characters and their lives, much like Love Actually (2003), one of my favorite films ever. The film is hilarious, with stellar performances by comedy greats like Steve Carell, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling (underrated comedy actor). The jokes land every time, and the cast chemistry is never-ending. I love it when you can tell the cast had a blast filming. This movie is a nice watch if you don’t want something too lovey-dovey and want something more dynamic, with the perfect amount of romance. There is a scene in the film that is the hardest I laughed with a movie ever, tears and everything, I don’t recommend watching this at all before the movie, but please come back after watching and click here, so you can see the masterpiece it is again!

  1. Single or dealing with a breakup: 500 Days of Summer (2008)

500 DAYS OF SUMMER | Official Trailer | FOX Searchlight

  • Director: Marc Webb
  • Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel
  • Where to watch: Disney +
  • Tag: This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

In “500 Days of Summer”, Tom is a greeting card writer and hopeless romantic who is left surprised when his girlfriend Summer leaves him. He starts reflecting on their 500 days together and rediscovering himself. This is the movie you watch if you don’t feel like watching a classic romance at all or are in the process to move on. The film is bittersweet and hilarious at the same time, and Tom’s journey is a delight to see. Also, the character of Summer is so well done that you will feel a roller coaster of emotions when it comes to her, but in the end, she is such a great character. The film is edited with a very playful style; it’s not afraid of being animated and silly. There are too many scenes I could talk about, so I’m actually going to link two of them because they are so good. Click here and here if you don’t mind spoilers.
